Serving High Net Worth Individuals.

Services Tailored to You

Shared, high-value assets often lead to complex relationship property divisions during separation. Jeremy has tailored his practice to meet the needs and find effective solutions for those with complex matters.

Family Trusts

Jeremy has expert knowledge on the recent and significant developments in this area of law. Family trusts can be an effective tool for protecting family assets, and you do not receive an automatic entitlement to the assets when a relationship and family unit breaks down. You may, however, establish that your contributions have helped your partner or the trust grow the assets.

Business Owners

Jeremy understands the complex issues which can arise with joint ownership of businesses and companies. If your partner has been involved in your business to any extent or if you have invested money back into a business or company, these are vulnerable and potentially costly areas. Jeremy collaborates with valuers and forensic accountants to ensure you rescue your assets and end up on the right side of the ledger.

Economic Disparity and Division of Functions

Jeremy can help in establishing an economic disparity claim. The court can depart from an equal division of relationship property and award compensation to a party, if it is just to compensate one party for their significantly lower income and standard of living after the breakdown of a relationship. This disparity must be caused by the division of functions within the relationship.

Loans and Gifts

Jeremy can assist in disputes over whether money received to purchase a property is a loan or a gift. These disputes are becoming more common as property prices rise faster than income, and parents are stepping in to help their children get a foot on the property ladder.

Superannuation Funds

Jeremy can assist in matters where the funds in your KiwiSaver or other superannuation scheme acquired since your relationship started may be divided between you and your ex-partner. This is regardless of whether the contributions have been made by you, your employer or the government.

Who we enjoy working with

Our ideal client is someone whose relationship property pool involves assets, such as a trust or small business. There may be income disparity between the two parties. The asset pool may be to the value of $3-4 million, or more.

Jeremy will assess commercially pragmatic solutions to meet each client's individual needs, and to help them attain a fair share of the relationship property pool.
