2016 Property Relationships Act Law Commission Review

Justice Minister Amy Adams has asked the NZ Law Commission to conduct a review of the Property Relationships Act 1976 in 2016.

 

This review will consider any issues that have arisen since its last review in 2001. We are anticipating equally big changes from this review and are eager to meet reforms making the property division process easier for all parties involved.

 

Ms Adams acknowledges that “the division of property at the end of a relationship is a stressful and often complex process that affects many thousands of New Zealanders each year. It is crucial that the law operates as effectively and as fairly as possible and the review is designed to ensure that is the case...”
